ASTRON Netherlands Institute for Radio Astronomy
Mission
ASTRON facilitates astronomical research by developing and exploiting state-of-the-art telescopes and advanced instruments. The focus lies on innovative technologies and fundamental astronomical research in the Milky Way Galaxy and beyond. ASTRON manages several observatories in the Nederlands, the Westerbork Synthesis Radio Telescope and LOFAR the Low Frequency Array.

ASTRON was founded in 1949 as Stichting Radiostraling van Zon en Melkwegstelsel (SRZM).
