No call for Individual Projects in 2005
25 November 2004
During the last few years, the salary costs of Ph.D. researchers have risen enormously. WOTRO has not been compensted for this rise. As the WOTRO Board maintained the same number of awarded projects per year, WOTRO engaged in financial commitments that created a deficit for this particular granting scheme.
At this moment, the deficit and the prospects are thus that the
Board feels forced to skip the next annual call for Individual Projects (Call
for 2006). This economy measure only concerns this specific granting
scheme. Calls for DC-fellowships (funded through earmarked budget) and for
other granting schemes will continue as before.
The Board realises that this one-time skipping of a normally
annual call will be disappointing for the Dutch tropical research
field. The board regrets the decision, but considers this temporary
measure inevitable.
