Volkswagen Foundation: Call for proposals for African Researchers

The Volkswagen Foundation released a call for Pre-Proposals for Postdoctoral Junior Fellowships for African Researchers on “Resources, their Dynamics, and Sustainability – Capacity Development in Comparative and Integrated Approaches”. The foundation aims to provide sustainable support for research in Sub-Saharan Africa by encouraging cooperation between African and German scholars.
This funding initiative is open to all disciplines and aims at the development and sustainable reinforcement of research in Sub-Saharan Africa. Research projects, developed and carried out by African scholars and scientists in close cooperation with their German partners, shall provide junior researchers in Africa with an opportunity to enhance their skills and academic qualifications. Special emphasis is put on the development, reinforcement, and extension of academic networks inside Africa.
Applicants must be junior postdoctoral researchers from Sub-Saharan Africa with less than 3 years of postdoctoral experience. The necessary degree (PhD) must have been granted at the latest by the End of 2010.
Four main areas of natural resources are in the focus of this call for preproposals:
- land,
- water,
- biological resources, and
- sustainable energy for domestic use.
The application and selection process is in three stages. The deadline for first stage, the submission for pre-proposals, is 15 December 2009.
