29 May: Kick-off conference NWO theme 'Conflict and Security'

14 april 2008

The kick-off conference of the Conflict and Security research theme addresses the social and scientific urgency of this theme. This conference is an absolute must for everyone who is involved in or interested in research into conflicts. It will be held on Thursday afternoon 29 May in the Peace Palace, The Hague.

In recent years three global trends in conflict research and theory can be distinguished each with their own important implications for the explanation of the way in which social systems, ranging from families to coalitions of countries, respond to, intervene and deal with conflicts. These three trends are: 1) the multi-faceted functions of conflict; 2) dynamics and longitudinal aspects of conflicts 3) cross-level influences. Together they form the guideline of the NWO theme 'Conflict and Security'.
