Six Joint MFS II programmes awarded

Six research proposals have been awarded in the Joint MFS II evaluations of development interventions-programme. These include the evaluations at country level of interventions in Pakistan, Indonesia, India, Congo and Liberia. Mirjam de Bruijn

Vici for research on new ICT and social media in African conflict zones

Anthropologist Mirjam de Bruijn has been awarded a Vici grant by NWO for investigating the influence of new communication technologies and social media on changing social and political relations in northern Central Africa. The Vici grant (1.5 million euros) is one of the largest individual grants in the Netherlands. De Bruijn works as a Professor at the African Studies Centre in Leiden and the Leiden University Institute for History. Read more...

Calls for Proposals: China-Netherlands Joint Scientific Thematic Research Programme (JSTP)

The JSTP aims at fostering research collaborations of Sino-Dutch research teams. Thematic calls for proposals are published annually. The 2011-2012 call addresses the topic 'Agriculture & Food: How to Feed the World?'. On the Dutch side, a budget of up to €1,5 million is available. This contribution is matched by the Chinese counterparts. Application is also possible for the funding of joint Dialogue Seminars. These seminars serve as fore-sighting exercises aimed at identification of topics for future joint research. Deadline for submission is 10 April 2012. Read more…

Business to Science conference on global food security

NWO-WOTRO invites all interested to join the FoodFirst Business to Science conference “VoedselZaken over grenzen heen”, held at 15 March 2012 at the Rabobank in Utrecht. Key question is how scientists and entrepreneurs can work together effectively on improving global food security. Next to presentations on the top sector policy of the Dutch government and examples of collaboration between science and business, a presentation is given on the new WOTRO research programme Global Food Systems. Second Call Joint MFS II evaluations: Bangladesh, Ethiopia and Uganda and International lobbying & advocacy

On 16 January 2012 WOTRO Science for Global Development launched two second calls for proposals concerning the evaluation of development interventions financed by the Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs (the so-called Joint MFS II Evaluations). The international calls relate to the evaluation of international lobbying and advocacy and to the evaluations at country level, specifically Bangladesh, Ethiopia and Uganda. Call for Proposals: Migration, Development and Conflict

On 20 December NWO-WOTRO and the NWO Division Of Social Sciences launched a joint call for proposals for the new research programme Migration, Development and Conflict. The programme aims to investigate transnational flows and their implications by looking at the multifaceted interactions of the positive and negative dimensions of transnational migration. A maximum of 5 projects (with a budget of up to €110,000 per project) can be awarded in this call. The deadline for submission is March 20, 2012. Call for Proposals: Population, Reproductive Health and Economic Development (PopDev)

On December 20 WOTRO, the Economic Social Research Council (UK), the Population Reference Bureau (USA) and the Research Council of Norway launched a second call for proposals for the research programme Population, Reproductive Health and Economic Development. A budget of approximately €2,2 million is available for up to eight research programmes in total. Proposals must be submitted by international teams. The deadline for submission is March 15, 2012. Three GHPHSR programmes awarded

Three research programmes have been awarded funding in the second call of the Global Health Policy and Health Systems Research (GHPHSR) programme. The overall aim of the awarded programmes is to reduce maternal mortality and to improve maternal health, including enhancing equitable access to reproductive health services. The programmes focus on Rwanda, South Africa, DR Congo, Burundi and Mali. Read more...
