Vici subsidy for Harro Bouwmeester

24 maart 2006

Harro Bouwmeester (WUR) received a Vici award for his research proposal ‘Underground chemical ecology. The role of host root derived signalling compounds in the lifecycle of parasitic plants’.

Plants cannot see or speak, but communication is possible between plants and insects or fungus through chemicals. With his award, Harro Bouwmeester will investigate through which chemicals the communication takes place.

NWO awarded 27 excellent researchers with a Vici subsidy end 2005. Vici grants are directed at senior researchers who have shown that they have the ability successfully to develop their own innovative lines of research and to act as coaches for young researchers. They will be enabled to build up their own research teams, often in advance of a regular professorial appointment. Their lines of research must be given a structural place within the research institution. The maximum amount of grant is
€ 1,250,000.
