ERA-MORE netwerk

The Euroaxess network is made up of 200 Mobility Centres spread across Europe, which provide individual specific assistance to researchers and their families who emigrate within Europe. The Mobility Centres provide researchers with advice and support in a wide range of areas. For example, information about grants, vacancies, training, intellectual property, visas, accommodation, social insurance, language courses and childcare facilities.

There are three such Mobility Centres in the Netherlands:

  • Nuffic (Netherlands organisation for international cooperation in higher education)
  • VSNU (Association of Universities in the Netherlands)
  • EG-Liaison (the organisation for information and independent advice about the European framework programmes for Research and Technological Development)

Possibilities offered by NWO

NWO has various travel and accommodation grants to encourage the mobility of researchers. An up-to-date overview can be found in the Subsidy Guide.

Furthermore, since 2005 it has been easier for researchers with an individual grant from NWO to continue their research abroad if they so wish. The Money Follows Researcher regulation from EUROHORCs (European Union Research Organisation's Heads of Research Councils) is the initiative that makes this possible. Twenty-seven organisations from 18 different European countries have now become signatories to the regulation, including NWO. The regulation is aimed at increasing mobility within the European Research Area (ERA). If a researcher has an individual grant (for example, the Innovational Research Incentives Scheme, Mosaic, or a personal grant within the open competition), then he/she can enquire at the relevant NWO division if he/she is eligible for the Money Follows Researcher regulation. This is because the possibilities are examined on a case-by-case basis. Please note that Money Follows Researcher does not apply to grants awarded to a research group.

Details about the Money Follows Researcher agreement can be found on the EUROHORCs website.
